Waiting for the Mist to Clear
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A first posting with my new F2.8 70-200 lens.
Saturday morning started very misty, the weather forecast was for a full day of sun, and when I left home to go the nursery 5 miles up the road it was bright and sunny, but my journey involves me traveling out of the River Trent valley and over into the Vale of Belvoir and as often happens local conditions generated thick mist on the ridge between the two valleys which hung around for several hours into the heat of the sun finally warmed it enough to make it disperse. I arrived at work and unlocked for the rest of the lad and walked down to my potting shed on the nursery, and perched on the electric cable supplying power to it was a pair of swallows (Hirundo rustica) fast asleep waiting for the mist to clear so that the insects they rely on would come out of shelter and start to fly which would not happen until things got warmer.
The BG is the mist, nothing else is visible.
taken with me steadying the lens against the potting shed door trying not to wake them up. You can tell its cool because this one has its feathers all fluffed up to keep it warm.

I really like the sleeping pose of the swallow.
He appears to be in deep sleep... blissfully oblivious. : )
The fluffed-up feathers give the shot a soft feel,
which works well with the misty BG.
Great shot, Rob, and TFS. : )
I like the softness of this photo and think it works well with the ambient light and mist, and he looks so cute, a rare shot indeed.
Hi Robert,
