[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the 3rd in the life of my little group of Buff-Tip moth caterpillars (Phalera bucephala) for a view of the adult posted by Merlin click here
The 1st was It's Getting a Bit Crowded Here
The 2nd was We Did all Fit on One side
They are all now growing very rapidly they are now 35mm in length (I measured it to see how big it was)they have to get to 75mm before they pupate over winter, and although they are still trying to keep together they no longer fit on one leaf, in fact it is a push to get 4 on a Salix cinerea leaf which is what they are feeding on here. There are many more food plants such as Alders, Oak, Hazel, Sycamore, Hornbeam and Birch, I have an image of a young group on a Oak branch which they were making good inroads into. Although they strip a branch of all its leaves this does not seem to hurt the tree as they leave the buds for next years leaves alone, so next spring growth will start as normal.

Hi Robert.
You have some wonderful captures of this caterpillar in your latest posts. This is nice, although the crowded ones have more impact. I like your diadematus view also. It is very similar to the one I suggested you to look in my gallery, but with much paler colours.
