[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well it seems to be a year for 1st and unusual finds, this one is no exption. I normally find the smaller Speckled Bush Cricket and then not in large numbers so to find this male Great Green Bush Cricket (Tettigonia viridissima) was exciting, as my books all talk about it being confined to warmer areas like the south coast of the UK.
I know this is a male because it does not have the large sword like ovipositor at the rear of the body.
Seen here perched on a leaf of a birch tree (Betula pendula)it is about 42mm in lenght not inclueding the antenae which are about the same again in their own right and on of the thinks that tel you its a cricket and not a grass hopper or locust. The antenae are not quiet as sparp as the rest because they are so fine and mainly because they never stop waving them about trying to sense their surroundings.
Shot in Raw (I am now shooting every thing in Raw) and converted to Tiff in Rawshooter.
Adjusted slightly for levels and sharpened in PS (CS) and saved as a Jpeg and reduced to below 200k for TN.

Hi Robert,
Very artistic picture of this male Green Bush Cricket. Beautiful fine colours, the grey of the background fitting so well with the green of the leaf and the cricket.

I love the composition and the gentle green colours against the beautiful light grey background in this one. ALso very sharp and nice details.

Very good macro of this Cricket. You've made great job, because these insects are almost always hidden in grass, with terrible BG :-) Yours is detailed, sharp and perfectly visible. Very nice composition with leaves. Great post.

well what can i say, it certainly is a rare capture but a very good one.
some very nice detail and im amazed you spotted him in the first place. what stands out is the fact that you caught a catchlight in his eye.
you have some very nice shots in your portfolio, keep up the good work.
