[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was lucky enough to photograph this great looking specimen today on my lunch break.

Spiders of the genus Meta are intermediate in form between Tetragnatha and Aranidae. The genus is included in the family Tetragnathidae although they are often considered as a family on their own - Metidae.

This shot is of a male. He has his own web here but he and the very similar M. segmentata males can often be found at the edge of the females web. As courtship he will present her with a bundle of prey and he hopes this will keep her busy while he goes about his business. Cheekily he will try and steal this bundle from her when he has finished. I have a picture of this behaviour in M. segmentata here.

Both M. mengei and M. segmentata can be found in woods, gardens and wasteland, the webs are at ground level to 1.5 m and are often small compared to the size of the spider. M. segmentata is abundant in the autumn and M. mengei is a spring to early summer speices.

The notes are based on those in "Spiders of Britain and Northern Europe" by Dick Jones.

I hope you like him.

Hello Paul.
Dont call it luck, please. We have already seen your "lunch break" photos before and you cant have luck so often :D
A beautiful specimen, and a great pose and composition. Thanks!

A really sharp capture Paul,
Great DOF, and superb colours. The details are very crisp and clear.
Did you use a tripod, or was this handheld?
Thanks for posting

Very effective composition and superb detail.
Great work,very well done indeed.

Very good macro Paul, beautiful light and lovely details, very nice work.

Instructive lunch break, Paul... and good eyes too. Your beautiful composition proves (if it was necessary) that the camera should never be far from where we are. For fans like us, there's always a good catch somewhere. This one is striking, with a splendid light to enhance it. It would have been a pity to miss it. Where do you have lunch?

A fantastically captured pose here. Details are amazing. I love the hint of webs all over the place. Great detail, well done!

Paul, another impressive shot.

Excellent composition and great shades. To me, it's not only a stunning shot: it also has an artistic touch, due to colors on it.

Well done.

Excellent work.

Excellent as always Paul, (still would have used my 500mm, with a 2X extender), I have to admire your spider shots for their quality.

Very nice shot, good POV and good details.
Well done.
TFS.

Exceptional capture Paul. All is great - details, quality, light, composition. But first of all both subjects - spider and very interesting plant.

Great shot Paul, Excellent composition, details, sharpness and pose..A great addition to your collection and very well done my friend! P.S. I've tried using my 1.4 kenko combined with the 150mm but find it really difficult to work with. Very narrow DOF..Maybe I haven't tried to use it under the right conditions yet...Any tips or suggestions??

I owe you 1, ehrm ...2!

Hi Paul
I see you are back on the nasties and uglies - what happened to the birdies - lol.
Good macro from you on this critter - reinforce WHY I do NOT like these critters - just think if they were as large as an eagle . . .
Great work TFS

It must be a 'guy thing', Paul.
And I quote, "I was lucky enough to photograph this great looking specimen today on my lunch break."? Are you crazy?
My lunch would have been ruined for months to see this when I was trying to eat, or had just.
I am still getting over some photos that I took a couple of weeks ago!
Seriously though, your words to this photo gave me a wonderful chuckle, and that is lucky!
He is a fine looking spider.
Very good detail and excellent composition.
Well done, and thank you for sharing it...
