[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Small Copper, pictured here perched on top of a linseed seed pod belongs to the family Lycaenidae. In addition to the coppers this family contains the blues and hairstreaks and is the largest of all the butterfly families. The butterflies are small to medium-sized and are frequently brilliantly coloured, especially the males. Worldwide there are 6000 different species in this family and 95 of these occur in Europe with just 15 in the UK. All six legs are functional in this family and the Larvae are woodlouse shaped and the pupae are stout affairs attached by their tail hooks and silken girdle to either the food-plant or to the surrounding leaf litter.

The coppers are named for their bright coppery colours, which are especially bright in the males.

The nearside wing is, as you will notice, outside my DOF but this is the maximum I can get. I think this makes a nice Autumn picture. I hope you like it and thanks for looking.

c'est marant tous parait charnu sur ce papillon, les pattes sont epaisse ainssi que les ailes.
j'aime beaucoup la patire de gauche de l'insect, la tete et les antenes sont superbe.
dommage que l'aile du premier plant soit floue.
merci.

This shot is original, because the attention is brought on what we generally don't see clearly on a butterfly picture. Your choice of point of view is well seen, and obviously your intention was to concentrate on details (head, left antenna and legs textures are perfect). The position on this linseed top is also different of what we generally see, and it conveys an artistic feeling to the image. Very good light distribution and warm colors. Well done, Paul.

Perfect composition Paul, the detail of the head of the insect is magnificent, asi like the frame and the DOF, but the focus lamentably is lost on the wings of the insect, problem that we have all the users with cameras not reflex whose opening does not surpass the F8.
Discounting this unsalvable detail.... well done.

Great Paul.
Very good composition , very good DOF , and good details.
Great note.
Well done.

Hi Paul like the colour and backlighting coming through. Unusual POv with the raised wings only semi up/down. O notice a spin thread. It is amazinf how many of these I found on my recent shot of bugs 'n birds, totally invisible to the eye at the time of shooting. This is top notch.

Perfect composition in this one, the shapes are beautiful, and the head and legs are great. Wood work.

You are right this has a real autumn feel to it, the soft feel to it helps in this to me.
I think the crossing back is not going to be as plesent as the going, the ship is starting to roll.

A very nice capture and the composition is excellent.
Nice Autumnal colours and great DoF.
Great work,very well done.

Well I think it's a very nice shot, sitting on top of this seed pod. I like the translusant colour through the near underwing and the composition is great. Excellent sharpness, I would like to know how close (approx) you were when taking this shot?

Way to much facial hair Paul. :) Fall colours it definitely is. Very nice pose you captured. Nice one.

Yes, the composition is good, details ... And for me, most important in this shot is the presence in one shot of a symbol of summer (butterfly) and of a symbol of autumn (plant).

A nice autumn shot it is. I like the way the light shines through the wing. Good DOF and lighting.

Thanks for posting.

Great capture of a species I have yet to see "live". Clearly a relative of the blues, though, with the black eye and striped antennae ;-)
Did you do 1/45 sec hand held?? Excellent sharpness, hat off ;-)

couleur automnale qui sied comme un gant a cette composition. bravo pour la pdc judicieuse!

Wowww great shot. A beautiful composition , with wonderful colors and so clear details.

This is a delightful picture Paul. I love the colours both of the butterfly and the background. I like the way you have caught it perched somewhat precariously on this seedhead. The light is great and the butterfly is very sharp with lots of detail. This is beautifully done, thank you for posting it :)
