[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
If you’ve looked through my photos and others in the hoverfly theme you’ll find a few pictures of Syrphus ribesii. I love hoverflies and this one is no exception. This is the only S. ribesii I have seen this November so I was rather pleased to capture it, I don’t know what the smaller fly is, but I like to think it is admiring the hoverfly. With all the pictures and notes posted on TN already I’m finding it hard to think of new things to say about this insect.

It was pretty bad weather the day I took this, with F8 I wasn’t getting good results at all, so I increased the aperture to reduce the shutter speed and this is the result. I managed to focus on the head and wing and I like the photo, I hope you do too.

Gran captura Paul, con gran explicacion sobre la misma... sólo me preguntaría... admiración o pánico.
Muy buena agudeza sobre todo en la cabeza y el pequeño insecto.
Perfecto DOF al igual que la composicion.

Great capture Paul, with great explanation on the same one... to only would ask... admiration or panic.
Very good sharpness mainly in the head and the small insect.
Perfect DOF like the composition.

Paul, Nice surprise when you open from thumbnail & see the theme unfold in your photo! Most excellent perspective/composition including the whole flower & base. Great title to lead-in the viewer..Nothing but admiration here! ;-)

I still have this smaller ones on my wishlist. There are but not many. Paul, you do not stop with impressing me with shots like this. I can only shiver when I think what you will do when not limited to F8. Beautifull composition and colours.

I dont think it is admiration - I think he is sh&** scared. He will be in this position long after the hoverfly is gone.

Great shot with excellent sharpness.

Thanks for posting

Extraordinary meeting in the flower :-) As we can see hoverfly is really gigantic to this little one from left. Great shot, very well spotted.

Paul, not a shiny day, november the first…
Beautiful capture in spite of the circumstances.
If you use your flash, you is limited to 1/250 seconds as with my Canon?

TFS.

This is a strange photo, I cant determine which is the real subject... at last I decided it is the eye of the hover fly :-D
Thanks Paul!

o! this is something! impressive and very detailed shot! it's very good (for me)

Just the flower and the hoverfly would have made a great photo. But here, the smaller fly adds interest and tension. Of the three photos of hoverflies you have posted so far, this is my favourite.

I like very much these detailed macro shots using the colors so wisely! Very fine job!
