Taken at the same time as one of my earlier posts, this Canada Goose gosling was strolling past me while I was fishing at a venue called Orchid Lakes. It was on a slight rise of land behind me so all I had to do was turn in my bank chair and shoot. The light was perfect, a bright, but hazy day, with a bit of intermmitent overcast, so no harsh contrasts.
While looking for something interesting to post here about Canada Geese I found this website www.goose.org
which says:
"Among the geese, there are 2 major genera. Anser geese typically have pink, orange or grey legs & bills, and serrated bills. Branta are invariably black. In addition, Branta bills are generally softer, without conspicuous serrations. The genus Anser is considered less specialized than Branta."
Canada Geese are one of the species in the Branta genera. If you are interested in that sort of thing, there are links off the above mentioned website which give brief descriptions of the species in each of the genera. |
