[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this yesterday on a cold early morning trip to my local lake.
I tried to brighten it as much as possible before noise was really apparent.

I hope you like it!

Latin name
Phalacrocorax carbo

Family
Cormorants and shags (Phalacrocoracidae)

Overview
A large and conspicuous waterbird, the cormorant has an almost primitive appearance with its long neck making it appear almost reptilian. It is often seen standing with its wings held out to dry. Regarded by some as black, sinister and greedy, cormorants are supreme fishers which can bring them into conflict with anglers and they have been persecuted in the past. The UK holds internationally important wintering numbers and with its breeding concentrations at a few sites it is an Amber List species.

Where to see them
Found around the UK coastline on rocky shores, coastal lagoons and estuaries, it is increasingly being seen inland at reservoirs, lakes and gravel pits.

When to see them
All year round.

What they eat
Fish

Thanks for viewing :-D

Hi Joey, this is a Joey style picture, you put a smile on my face. Your bird looks like a comic strip character with its feathers all curved up and its spreaded legs! Yet, it is a very fine picture with a beautiful frame, perfect once again! Thank you!

Hi Joe,

This is amazing! The pose couldn't be better - it is so symmetrical. Great timing to get this one. I can't help but wonder how it would look in black and white.

Hello Joe,
Wow, this looks like a Cormorant flapping its wings like a Lapwing! :-) Not one of your best shots but I like it, it's very funny! Good focus on the green eye and well composed.
TFS and cheers, Ulla

It looks totally unreal like something out of Mad Max age with strange flying machines as you may remember if you ever saw the Mel Gibson movie...or perhaps something almost Gothic...very neat image...moody!

Hi Joe,

Great in-flight shot of the Cormorant, nicely composed and the pose really shows off the shape of the Cormorant which will be useful for other people to identify them when flying overhead, nice light on the birds face.

Hello joey, I think the lighting is very little role to play looking at the pose and also the view. Well done TFS Ganesh

I never seen a bird like this one! This is great. Keep up the good stuff Joey! Cheers Josh Lewis.
