[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have finally found a proper insect to photograph!!!
This is a tiny 8mm long Hoverfly!
I also photographed my first butterfly of the year yesterday (a Peacock butterfly), there's been sightings of Damselflies, there's thousands of spiders, and there tonnes of little fly-ike things including a weird black Wasp which I'll post soon.

Spring is here! :-)))

I understand that it may be quite hard to I.D. this but if anyone knows then I'd appreciate very much if you could tell me :-) There's a body shot in the WS.

I didn't have my teleconverter on so I could have got much closer but I hope you like this anyway!

Once again neighbours with the same theme, Joe. Isn't that an interesting co-incidence?
This is a powerful macro of a Hoverfly's eye. I can see and count each cell (or whatever it is called) in both the eyes.
you are once again in command of your versatile equipment.
TFS and cheers.
Ram

Hi Joe,

Great sharpness and focus on top of the eye.
Wonderfully detailed and the colors and color contrast are very beautiful.
Very well done my friend. TFS!!!

Cheers, Harry

P/S By the way, I'm sure this coming summer you will find many more proper insects to take shots of ;-)

Hi Joe,
A nice capture of this beautiful close up shot of the hoverfly. Excellent sharp details and a fine composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Joe,
a fine macro-shot of a hoverfly, the details in the cells
are well seen but as usual the DOF will be shallow even at F11
in this close. Pity about the reflection in the back from the flash maybe a diffuser should helped.
Lovely colours and well exposed.
If you want help with the ID we need to see the whole body.
Well done.

Bonjour,
Magnifique détail très impressionnant.
Bonne journée.

Excellent extreme closeup Joe with it's yellow BG and detailed eye segmentation seen so well. I like the diagonal aspect of your comp and POV that shows the top of the face well also..
Great DOF, color, and use of flash :)
Very well done,
Howard

Hi Joe,
what a way to show off your macro work. Those details in the hoverfly is amazing. Love the framed filling composition and vibrant colors... very eye catching.

You and I still remain fascinated with the geometry and science of th eye!!! It is indeed most fascinating to see and I still cannot imagine what it takes to process all of the incoming from such a complex system. With a fly not really in need of a brain nor emotion, why were we not given such things? Not that we would look very nice:-( Great image Joey. Nice close-in.

Hi Joe,

How much closer would you want to get? Whoops - shouldn't have asked that question - I know the answer. The eyes are fantastic! Excellent colors and details with the bright background setting it off.

Jane

Hi Joe, superb macro with amazing details, splendid focus and great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Joe, superb focus on the eyes and good dof amazingly shallow but well controlled. Nice contrasting colours for the outofocus part of the flower giving good contrast to make this fly stand out. Excellent shot. tfs Rgds Necip

Closer to me means eating it! ;-))) Joey, you're so funny, look how close you are and yet still sharp! Man, what could it be with your teleconverter. And I love macro because we see what we shouldn't be seeing and get to live at the scale of this tiny fly. It's amazing, look at the hair on its mandibula... the eyes, we see all the facets of it. And yellow background, how about feeling spring! Youpi! Spring is back and we'll see amazing shots from you! Bye bye,

Francine

Hi joey

Great macro of the Hoverfly I think they must be one of the most interesting insects to photograph, I like your composition with the tight crop, excellent POV with amazing detail in the eyes, looks really good with the yellow flower.

A strong and perfectly focused close-up of the thorax and head of a hoverfly Joe, the detail on the compound eyes is magnificent, and those three ocelli in the middle, a terrific design captured expertly. TFS indeed my friend.

Ps. Reagarding your note which you wrote to me, I never use the sunny conditions to take photograph. Always I use the reflecting light (in such as under shadow conditions) to gain more details on the skin.
