[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was down by my local lake back in March photographing everything I saw when a pair of Swans flew past. I snapped a few shots of them and thought nothing more. When looking at the photos on my computer I noticed one of them was going to the toilet! So I cropped out the sceond Swan and focused the attention on this one :-)

I hope you like it ;-)

Latin name
Cygnus olor

Family
Swans, ducks and geese (Anatidae)

Overview
The mute swan is a very large white waterbird. It has a long S-shaped neck, and an orange bill with black at the base of it. Flies with its neck extended and regular slow wingbeats. The population in the UK has increased recently, perhaps due to better protection of this species. The problem of lead poisoning on lowland rivers has also largely been solved by a ban on the sale of lead fishing weights. Some birds stay in their territories all year, while others move short distances and form winter flocks. In cold weather, some birds arrive from Europe into eastern England.

Where to see them
Breeds across most of the UK, other than in northern Scotland, mid-Wales and the moors of south-west England. Possible to see anywhere there is a shallow lake, or a slow-flowing rivers, even in urban areas and parks.

When to see them
All year round

What they eat
Water plants, insects and snails.

Thanks for viewing!

Hi Joe
What I like here the most is the moment and almost magical sky (blue vs white) with flying angel on foreground. There are little problems with sharpness but it is a minor thing here I like it very much

Hello Joe,
Nice to be back and have you as a neighbour but I'm glad I wasn't a target for this Swan!!
Great action shot in beautiful light. Good focus and fine details especially of the wing. Nice sky in the background too.
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hello Joe
Splendid capture of this beautiful swan flying... and peeing!! Ha,ha! What a exceptional time to capture it!
Very good job.
Greetings

Hi Joe!
What a great clarity and perfect sharpness! The swan looks really very beautiful! Bravo for taking this unique photo :)
Best regards,
Radomir

Beautiful in-flight capture from a good perspective Joe, perfectly frozen in space against an interesting BG! The swan may be "mute" but surely had a lot to "drink" beforehand...

Our Amtrak passenger train has dunnies which flow right out on the tracks..they say no they have them no longer, but when I flushed on in Iowa I saw the tracks whizzing by...a double whizz if you will:-) Fascinating and a lucky chance shot! So straight in flight. You are remarkable!

Hi Joe,

Don't you allow anyone their privacy?? And of course you caught him on a white cloud to show it off even more. Seriously, great shot of this swan with his nice face, long neck, and wonderful wings. So graceful in everything he does.

Hi Joe

Fabulous shot of the in-flight Swan.
Nicely composd with a excellent pose and POV, I like the way the head has come past the clouds and has the Blue Sky as BG.
Great colours and nice exposure on the whites, with great light too.

So when I'm walking along on a nice sunny day and feel a splash of rain on my head I guess I should look up & check from now on or maybe its best not knowing!

Hi Joe

It's always a treat when we have such surprises while looking at the photos on a big screen :)
This one is really well captured and the timing is definitely...well...funny :))
Great in-flight, with superb sharpness and a spot-on exposure. When dealing with flying swans and especially when you have a fluffy white cloud in the BG, it's always very difficult to keep the shot in a good exposure...also because you don't always get a second chance :) You really managed it like a true pro here!

BRAVO and TFS

Hi Joe

I always liked watching swans fly overhead...I might be a bit more careful in the future :)

You really caught the..umm..moment. That aside it is a lovely shot as well with the frozen action and blue sky BG. Perfect exposure

A lovely capture of this flying mute swan. Superb details, well timed and excellent details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello again Joe! ;D

Very funny shot Joe! This is very sharp! The DOF is great and the blurry BG is brilliantly effective!

Very well done,

Danny :D

Hello Joe,
Great capture of this swan dumping his pay load, a good reason never to look up when they are overhead. This image has great sharpness and color especially for an inflight. Great work once again Joe, thanks.

Hi Joe,
Well seen and captured :o) Good POV, pose and details. TFS
Best wishes,

Hello Joe,
Extraordinary moment.
Besides the 'toilet' there's another amazing thing: due to the in flight moment the S -shaped neck is gone and you can see how loooong the neck actually is.
Well done
