Painted Lady, Vanessa cardui

This species always makes for a colourful picture. As a consequence we see quite a lot of it on TN. My reason for posting this particular shot is the "painted" background which just had to be in focus with the insect flat on the ground.

This rolled path in Bernwood Forest looks in close up something like a fancy bar of nougat or some other similar confectionery. The colours tone well with the dull orange/red of the butterfly markings. Near, focussed backgrounds can be very busy and detrecat from the insect itself. In this case, for me anyway, it seems to co-ordinate quite well. Something of a surprise effect.

Anyway, perhaps you will agree, perhaps not. Let me know anyway. Resized and sharpened for TN; just about this size in raw.

Oh, and one more thing. Zen tells us that nothing is perfect. This butterfly has a small flaw. Can you spot it?

Nice capture of the painted lady!

I have posted the same subject today too. In your case, good sharpness with nice POV. The eyes are well focused. Natural colors of the butterfly are well shown. I like the conglomeratic floor.

Hi Alan. See what you mean about the BG not to sure about it looking like nougat . Once again we see this Painted Lady . which you have taken with fine detail and sharp focusing. We can see all of the open wing markings. wel ldone TFs.
