[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken today. I saw them last week but only one or two, today I saw a few dozen. I had to attempt this shot many times as this was in an open area and we had some strong winds today. I'm quite pleased after numerous attempts that I got this at 1/30 s! I used my home made flash diffuser for this shot.

Blue Tailed Damselfly, Ischnura elegans (Vander Linden)

This one is a female, the ovipositor can just be seen. This is one of the commonest damselflies in the UK and it occurs at all latitudes up to the north coast of Scotland, it also has a wide distribution in Europe although it's absent from much of Scandanavia and has a restricted distribution in Spain.

I hope you like her.

Belle et intéressante composition macro-photographique en diagonale pour ce superbe libellule. Jolies couleurs et bonne netteté grâce à la profondeur de champ bien maitrisée.
Nice & Very Well Done !

hello Paul,
A very nice capture.
Nice and sharp with excellent composition and DOF.
You've done extremely well in those conditions and at 1/30 too!
Nice one,very well done.

Lovely shot Paul. As you say, you can actually see the ovipositor - that is great detail! Beautiful composition and DOF. Questions: Did you use on-camera flash? How did you make your home-made flash diffuser? Did you use a tripod? I haven't seen any blue-tailed ones yet this year. It's great to see yours though, thanks for posting :) Btw, I've got that Steve Brooks book and I find it very useful.

wow what a beauty photo:):) great one:D really ur photo is exellent

Very nice color and composition, Paul. Tack sharp. Exceptional exposure... the diffuser is perfect. Unbelievable clarity for ISO 800 and 1/30s. I am so glad they are back. Very well done.

I saw the first damselfly this afternoon - a red one - but no luck there. Well, I am looking forward to a great season hopefully with lots of dragonflies.
