Hi Emma

I like the B&W but not really quality of this shot - as you mention. I think the composition is really good - and like the colour perspective you have obtained here.

Personally the OE does not put me off at all.

No...the over exposure is not a bad thing. As a matter of fact I'm not entirely sure if there is such a thing as over exposure when it comes to the sun. It is more of a spectrum analysis. There are all sorts of extras to consider. For instance..the sun is just perceptually a colour but is a range of vibrations and different energies. My mind is boggled at the incoming. There are simple solar rays, possibly gamma rays or maybe even muons. Since we have yet to capture in any way shape or form, a muon..only its tracks..we don't know for sure what it's qualities are.
In "new age" terms and prior for thousands of years there are symbolical notions and projects of the sun. Without is we have nothing. Within it we are all consumed. In a picture, it is what it is. In this picture it is as fine as in a poor picture.. but yours has a consistent regrading of tonality which is why you took the picture. You have done what you felt to do and passed it on...very well done...

sometimes i think it's easy to get too concerned about the OE parts of the sky in some landscapes...personally i think that maybe it can sometimes add to the image, creating a huge range in contrast, as it has here.
The winning part of this shot to me is the beautiful layers stretching right back towards the horizon...i like it. Lovely colours and composition too, of course.

Hi Emma, I just posted a photo where I comment about light and all the different weather conditions and the need we have, as photographers, to express it in images. Well, your photo is absolutely sensational, so much beauty. I also visited your gallery and how much beauty in your images, what a great eye and heart you have. I also read that you are sick and I congratulate you for the love for life your images inspire. You have a great soul and thanks for that.

You are right, the sky in the right hand side seems too blue for the rest of the image. Do you think that making it more neutral than blue would be possible? I don't know how to post a workshop so there is none. But to be true, it doesn't really matter as your image conveys lots of feeling.

I am glad that I discovered the beauty of your images and the sensitivy of your notes.

Hi Emma,

I do like this monochromatic image. The silhouetted off center tree and foreground are nice against the gold/sepia sky. I personally don't care for the very OE area because it takes too much attention away from the wonderfully layered vista. One can't help but going back to look at the brightest area in the picture. I did a workshop only because you asked. It isn't exactly a legitimate solution for TN but if it was an image that I really wanted for myself... to help remember my reaction and thoughts at the moment I clicked the shutter then anything is fair. After all it is your picture and your memory.

This is very beautiful picture with very good compo, everyhing on spot, the ray of light, the layers and the tree.
Something that could help compo, I think, to take this picture with a little bit lower angle, to seperate the tree from the land.

Hi Emma

You are right: it's one of those "B&W" shots that is actually colour...i find these quite hard to take and find.
Your's is beautiful even with that OE sky, because the attention is focused on two other splendid elements here:
- the lovely silhouette of your tree, very nicely placed in the compo
- that outstanding perspective over the hills far away, with those layers becoming more and more hazy, thus giving a terrific sense of depth.
A great work! It was definitely good that you decided to post it :)

Hello Emma,

I like all those different sepia hues in the horizon line! The sun rays are also great and you balanced the composition nicely with the tree in the foreground and the gap in the clouds. The colors look excellent too!

As far as I know, OE is allowed in the sun or the sky from its immediate proximity. I don't think this is a problem in your shot. The difference in luminosity is much bigger than 1 f-stop. You need to take two pictures with different exposures in order to completely eliminate the OE. But again, I think this is acceptable. Thank you!

Hi Emma,
Looks like you've been more active lately then I have. Is this evidence that things are getting better?

Besides from the OE area the mood in this photo is great. You always seems to be able to get great results with the shooting into the sun technique. I agree with you on the filter choise. A grad filter would have been better.

Anyway, I like the tree photo and the way you presented it in a different way.

I like how the landscape is fading in a distance!
This is a fine and well balanced composition, where the great old tree is the eye-catcher but the play of light is also an interesting element...
Excellent details and a fine feeling of depth!
