One from the archives, but this reminds me that I need to get out to Richmond Park sometime soon for some fresh deer shots.

This one was taken at the beginning of December on a cold and not particularly dry day, but we did get a brief break in the light, whihc give a slightly better quality of light. Luckily I happened to be sitting with the herd at the point when the sun broke through the clouds.

This looked like the dominant male in a herd of 15 or so animals - he certainly had the most tines (small points) on his antlers by some way. Although I mostly took pictures of birds last year, some of my nicest moments came from just sitting with the deer as they fed and relaxed around me. Happy days.

Bonjour Mike, great shot of this splendid Red Deer. I like this B and W shot too, it's agree perfectly. TFS, Didier.

Very effective use of B/W for this shot, it also shows how good it's natural camouflage is...Well focused and a good POV...

Hi Mike,

I'm not always a fan of black and white but I love this picture. The deer is beautiful and he looks very proud of those wonderful antlers. Super sharp details and an excellent composition.

Cheers,

Hi Mike,
The b&w choice works great here.
I like a lot the wide gray scale displayed here, so rich and with a lot of strength.
It's so good the nice lighting on the deer's face.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Mike,
A wonderful shot, that captures all the details, despite the B/W.Very luminous, perfect exposure!
Thank you!

A super choice for Black and White conversion....Soon you will see how much more fun these images are to gaze on than the editorial images which newsmen take every day...each job though has its importance..and through the magazine you will see that capturing the moment is one of the most important parts of journalistic photos...no matter the quality..it is location and timing...very well done!

Hello Mike, a beautiful composition I like how the shallow dof has helped make the deer stand out. The sharpness is v.good. Interesting use of b&w, tfs Rgds Necip

You know what a park is in UK, wow, sitting among deers and taking pictures, I didn't know you could get that close. This is a superb B&W shot, what strikes me most are the textures, from the bottom of the frame with the herbs and ferns, then the antlers, then the tree branches at the foreground. The fur of the deer too and all this with a bright lit face of the deer. Congratulations, it is beautiful.
