[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well this was a double learning curve for me because my new lens finally arrived and I literally went home, unpacked it and went chasing butterflies.

This was only the 6th or 7th shot with the new lens, and I have probably messes up have the settings, including leaving the camera on Av mode rather than Tv mode...

Sadly this is not a native bluebell, but rather than Spanish Bluebell, but this Brimstone did not seem to mind much at all... I think this is a female becuase it looks decidedly green to me rather than yellow which i believe the males are...

So to everyone out there with the lens, what was you tell me that will help me with this lens... As you all know I am normally a landscaper but terrorise the flora and fauna in my garden when there are not landscapes around to be had - few views and no mountains where I am in Surrey and I need something to inspire me, so my love of wildlife and plants takes over...

composition wise, there is a slight crop, and i was having issues with the evening sunlight being very much from the wrong side of the garden, but honestly please, what are your thoughts...

any advise on DOF, F stops that are needed with this lens, it was bought for wildlife mostly, though landscapes will also be taken with it. Birds, butterflies and any mammal stupid enough to be in my way will be targets for the lens... (usually deer and snakes - yeh i know its not a mammal)

Converted from RAW, increased brightness by +0.66 becuase I always underexpose (landscape habit) and this was a touch too dark. otherwise untouched excepting slight crop, resize, border, USM.

Hi Emma,
I thought I dropped by real quick to see your first photo with the new super lens. Its all envy on that lens from my side.

I fully have to agree with Ulla. Vert sharp a perfect DOF and stunning colors. The bright stalk is a bit disturbing. I think leaving it on AV was the right choise. it gave you full control on the aperture. Even if light would have changed the slightest bit, the DOF would still be perfect. I have no experience with this lens. But I think it is about the same as the 400 lens I had with me in Scotland. I shot it lot of photos at F5.6. But I think that F8 is better. Since this is an IS lens, you should be able to handle the shutter speeds.

Hello Emma,
Lovely capture of the Brimstone on the Bluebells. Your new lens seems to work very well! Excellent sharpness and beautiful blue and yellow colours. The bright stalk behind the butterfly is a bit disturbing, otherwise a fine soft background too.

Hi Emma.
What a charming subject, nice butterfly and flowers. Great POV and composition at whole. I like excellent details of the main subject, nicely illuminated and coloured smooth BG. There are many skillful owners of the lens and I am sure you will gift us many true masterpieces with their help. However, this one is already superb. Bravo.
