I thought that I would post something other than orchids, spiders and midges today and instead went for a walk down my track. - plenty of insects own the track, but none in this picture... - and only 3 more midge bites acquired...

At the moment, most of the track sides are covered in wild honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) which is in full flower and, when there is no breeze, smells wonderful.

It is a native wild plant which generally lives in hedgerows and woodland, climbs up anything, usually bringing the whole lot to the ground, and creates the most wonderful twisted stems and trunks on silver birch and hazel.

Info - from Honeysuckle

"Lonicera periclymenum
Family: Caprifoliaceae
Synonym: Woodbine.
Flowers: June - October.

The wild Honeysuckle or Woodbine is very similar to the cultivated variety. It is a robust climber, which can eventually reach a height of 6 metres. The creamy-white two-lipped flowers tend to change to yellowish and are often tinged with purple. They fill the air with an exquisite scent on warm days. They are pollinated at night by night-flying moths and in the daytime by long-tongued bumble-bees. The lower leaves, which are opposite, are stalked, whereas the upper ones are unstalked. The round berries become red as they ripen in the autumn.

Honeysuckle is reasonably common in woods, hedges, scrub, and shady places like rocks and cliffs on all soils throughout the British Isles."

What else, well the BG is totally natural as was created by the sunlight highlighting this particular flower. If yu look really carefully, you can make out the BG, and to the bottom left, you can easily see the leaves crisscrossed with shadows.

Trip, mirror lockup, timer release, 300mm lens, no flash, RAW to Jpeg conversion, no colour changes etc, totally uneditted but with very minor crop (lost maybe 5%), sharpen and border added.

hope you can ejoy it and imagine the smell and as always please feel frree to comment, good or bad.

Hi Emma,
I like it a lot! Artistic and elegant, this flower looks great with this soft color against this so good dark bg! Composition and simplicity are fine top.
TFS, José M.

Hi Emma,
Now... that is an intriguing creation!
And you do well on the exposure here, blacking out background since the flower was so well lit...
Framing is well done too, almost symmetrical composition with great details!
Greetings,

Very nice Emma,

Good detail, colours and sharpness. exposure and lighting are good. Good POV and composition.
The scent of the honeysuckle is very nice, we have a huge mandarin honeysuckle in the garden which attracts all sorts of insects.

Thanks for posting, have a great week.
