Hi Sue, the world is very little, I take the same photo today, I'll post tomorrow, sorry I dont't know the id, I hope that someone tell you, so I know.
Splendid macro with wonderful details and great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Sue.

Excellent picture, nice composition and colors,

Regards.
Jose Luis.

HI Sue,
that's an excellent shot of the scorpion-fly.
I like the glittering wings, very good work my friend. I also had them here some time ago, perhaps you like to have a look than click here.
Your fly is a female, you can see the difference at the tail.
Male have a tail like a scorpion as you can see in my collage.
Bye and greetings
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Dear Sue,
very good shot at the Scorpion fly female. The male bears this scorpion-like tail held upward.
Unfortunately there are 20 species in Europe belonging to the genus Planorpa, 5 in Germany, ? in UK. It's not P. communis because of the wing veins, but P. germanica, if my identification key for Germany applies (E. Stresemnann1964. Exkursionsfauna, Vol. II/1. Volk und Wissen Berlin).
Thanks for sharing, Sue.
Best regards,
Dietrich

Many thanks, Ulla

Hello Sue!
This is not a fly but a scorpionfly belonging to genus Planorpa (most probably P. communis) (Mecoptera). These insects are known as predators but also as "thieves" - they use spider web as a "cupboard" - they eat dead spider's preys :)
Nice details and interesting POV, on the other hand I would cutt some free space on the left side :)
Best greetings from Poland,
Radomir

I love the details on this fly, Sue.
The lines and markings are very well defined with the thick black lines.
Excellent focus and exposure.
The translucent wings are well captured.

Excelente fotografía de esta mosca escorpión.
Los colores son muy naturales y parecen poco retocados.
Saludos
Jacobo
