| does anyone know what sort of bee this is. i took it in my garden along with 3 other species. it had a striking russet colour about the size of a wasp. |

this insect is a bumble bee, perhaps a bombus pascuorum but i am not sure
your shot is very beautiful with great sharpness
composition, colors and pse on the green leaves are excellent

Hi Sue,
you're right, this is a bee, not a bumble bee. In bumble bees the three ocelli are almost in a line; here they form a clear triangle. Your good, sharp shot allows for an ID: It must be the Tawny mining bee, Andrena fulva. A real beauty, this one!
