[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I think this is a bracket fungi called Coriolus Versicolor because of its banded colouring. It loves dead trees and this covered a short piece of dead trunk. these small brackets when fresh, are velvety and softish which dries darker and hardens with age, so they are not edible.
my position was looking down on this series of concentric circles trying to get more of an abstract feel to the photo. Taken in macro mode hence the narrower dof.

Hi Sue,
This is an excellent capture of this fungi!
You had an excellent same level POV to catch this formations.
The concentric bandes are certainly a very good graphic element to make an abstract composition, besides the interesting documentary work of this fungi specie.
I like so much the color harmony got here.
Congratulations and thanks for share it with us.
My best regards,
JM

fantastic pic, the frame is needless. TFS Ori

Hi Sue.
I like very much the Trametes versicolor or turkey tail fungus (Coriolus is a synonym not very used nowadays). As you show here, they make wonderful shapes, colours and textures, and you can play with DOF as they are always in different planes. I like the clarity in your shot and the natural details achieved. Thanks for this fungus.
PD: Cristina also looked for concentric circles HERE ;)
Regards, Felipe.
