Field Scabious, Knautia arvensis. member of the "Teasel" family (Dipsacaceae)

This is a big one!!.. 30mm head, very bold and sturdy plant. . hairy fairly stout perennial. These flowers are flattish, bluish-lilac and with pink anthers.

It has 4 unequal petal lobes on the larger flowers.Leaves lanceolate, untoothed and sometimes pinnate.

Found in grassy areas, near or on cultivated ground. They avoid heavy soils.

macro flash ring used, mirror lock, remote shutter release, manual focus, shot in RAW.

Minor PP work included sharpening, cropping/sizing and slight colour tone.

Hi Howard. What rich colours you ger with your camera and lens. You have such sharp focusing and fine detail in this field Scabious. good use of the flash . well done TFs. interesting notes too.

Very nice Howard...well seen in it's deep rich colour! And it is a complex flora for sure. I can see almost what one might consider anomalies in it...against the pattern if you will. I'll have to take your word for it's size...as I have not seen one..I have though seen each day here my share of things I know nothing of...then see them on Tn...it is still quite the "free" learning place for me.
