Hello Everyone,

Today's posting is a lady without her skirt!
Well, in fact it is a Welsh poppy without its petals but the analogy works well.

I was struck by the beauty of this. When the petals have gone, it takes on a different appearance; it looks like a clown's hat rather than a lady's pretty, dancing skirt.

Here is some further information about the Welsh poppy:
The Welsh poppy (Meconopsis cambrica) is a perennial plant of the family Papaveraceae. Its habitat is damp shady places on rocky ground, and it is native to south-western England, Wales, Ireland and Western Europe. In its most western locations, it is increasingly found on more open ground with less cover.

It has pinnately divided leaves. The flower is distinctively yellow or orange with four petals, and hairy green sepals that fall off quickly after the flower opens. It spreads easily from the numerous small black seeds produced in the summer. It is especially well adapted to colonising gaps and crevices in rocks and stones. This habit has enabled it to colonise the urban emvironment, growing between paving slabs and at the edges of walls.

It was originally classified as Papaver cambricum and may be referred to as such in older texts. It is the only member of the Meconopsis (Papaveraceae with yellow latex) genus native to Europe.

Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.
Bev :-)

Hello Beverley,
A fine and unusual image of a Welsh Poppy flower without its petals - a nice title BTW!
The dark BG and lighting show it up well in from a great POV and in a fine composition.
I like the petticoat of stamens!
TFS this beauty,
Ivan

Hi Bev

This is a great shot - very good isolation and focus against a very good BG. Well seen and captured.

Hello Bev
I saw the title and.....now I feel let down!!!
Only Joking Bev...What a fine subject..I would never have thought to even look at a petal less poppy!!
The picture is pretty unique and taken very well indeed..The back ground really makes the picture with its light and dark diagonally crossing....I am rambling now!!
In sum..A really refreshing post with a great title!!
All the Best
Paul

Hello Bev,
This is an interesting subject very well captured! Perhaps Poppies are so lovely because of their short lives! But they do leave beautiful seed heads behind too. Great sharpness, lovely colours and a fine soft background in this beautiful composition.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Bonjour Beverley,

Hi Beverley,
A very interesting capture and even more interesting analogy.

Beautiful composition that is simp0le and yet elegant in every manner. The lighting is used well but i think you had a slight problem with the exposure and focus. But that doesnt mar the beauty of this composition oozing aesthetic qualities and lovely colours.
Fine PoV and DoF.I like the double shade sweeping diagonally across the Bg.

Very well done,
TFS & Cheers

Still me Bev,
again a splendid macro-shot, lighting is excellent, very beautifull diagonal composition, and the small insect add well on this great shot,
cheer,
friendly,
Pat
