This is a superb macro, Joe!
If I wanted an illustration of a female Episyrphus balteatus, I would choose this one. The dorsal POV, sharpness and lighting are perfect and the halteres, or balancers show very well here.
This species is quite variable but it the ID is pretty certain as I see it.

Hi Joe, I would agree totally with Ivan to this, this is a wonderful fly, great colours and details, the markings have excellent definition, edges clean and sharp. Body hairs are nicely visible, good detail to the head, showing the ocelli, good work!!!

It is almost mathematically or geometrically a perfect bissection in design or the archetecture of the image...The perspective is plane flat 2D while the angles are not complex yet look fixed at a certain point! Purty neat!

The name seems to fit! Superb macro with outstanding colors and details. But what's new about that - it's a Joey macro. Perfect position on the wings showing off those wonderful wings that look like cellophane. Wonderful photo!

In April, we had a whole lot of these Hoverflies in our garden and I went berserk shooting them, Joe. Though the basic features are almost the same, our version does not have that pointed an abdomen.
Wonderful close-up with super sharpness and details.
