[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Male Brimstone on Lavender. Backlighting to bring out the strong colouration of the wings. This is a new brood Summer male. He will have hatched a week or so ago and be feeding up now in readiness for a short sleep. Then he will awaken in Autumn for another sip of nectar before going into a more permanent rest over the winter period. In early Spring, possibly February but usually March or April, he will awaken andfeed again, with his being set on finding a lovely little female to mate with. The lavender was in my garden an highlights the importance of nectar all year round. It also makes a pretty colourful backdrop for a yellow butterfly.

Hi Julien,

Superb shot of the lovely Brimstone.
Nicely composed with a great POV and excellent pose with the backlit wings.
Nice crisp details on both the Lavender and the Butterfly.
Great colours too, I like the way the OOF BG colour blends with the Lavender to bring out th yellow of the Brimstone.

Breathtakingly beautiful and an absolutely feast to the eye. It's great in sharpness, lighting, depth of field and everything else that I did not mention. I like it strong contrasts, vivid colors. You did not exaggerate anything, Lavender looks like that, the Brimstone IS yellow. Great picture, my compliments.
