The Comma, Polygonia c-album

This picture of the Comma shows very well why it is called "c-letter" in its Latin name. The texture and markings of the undeside of the wings shows up quite well. Most of you will know all about the butterfly, so I won't paste a lot of common knowledge.

The location was a wide ride in Maidenhead Thicket. This is an area of ancient woodland now managed by the National Trust just to the west of the town. It still supports quite a good variety of woodland species as well as the more widespread grassland and garden butterflies.

The picture was hand-held in natural sunlight. Fill-in flash was used but appears not to have had much effect as the sunlight was quite strong in this spot. The image has been cropped and resized for TN.

Hello Alan,
Your butterfly have interesting shape of wings but isn't colourful. You chose good POV.
Regards, Pawel

Hi,
Perfect viewpoint to show the shapes of the Comma, excellent viewpoint too. Brightness could be reduced to get some texture and details on the wings. tfs.

Hi Alan,
A nice capture of this beautiful comma butterfly. Very good composition and sharp details. But I think POV could have been little better. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Alan,

A good shot of the underside showing the comma off well. Good focus and dof. Colour natural and a good background.

regards Bill.

The butterfly wings look like a shell.
