As you can see by the date this is one more from the archives. This one is in its breeding feathers and looking very smart.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hello Nick,
It's always a pleasure to look at a Robin-picture. I like this one, showing it among a mix of branches, in fact in its natural environment. Good light, just on the bird and like always excellent sharpness.
Have a nice Sunday
Kind regards
Anne

Hi Nigel

Beacuse it is a common subject on TN, it is easy to judge the shot's quality. Obviously yours is up to your usual high standard; brilliant colour, great sharpness and plumage details, good eye contact. But most importantly, you have managed to make the bird stand out amongst the tangled undergrowth! I'm very impressed, well done.

Chris

Hi Nick,

I'm still catching up but I couldn't pass by this beautiful Robin. The colors are glowing and the red breast is brilliant. The face, eye and feathers are magnificent with excellent details. The bird shows off so well against the beautiful and busy background. Perfection once again.
