Like the early people of North Antrim, Thackeray was very impressed by the strangeness of this place. Like other sophisticated visitors he had read that the Causeway is a geological freak, caused by volcanic eruptions, and cooling lava.

The Giants Causeway is a region located at the tip of Northern Ireland and is renowned world wide for its beauty and unique geological qualities. The region is made of a volcanic rock called basalt which flowed out of the earths crust some 50-60 million years ago. When it cooled and solidified the chemical elements in the basalt formed approximately some 40,000 geometric, mostly hexagonal, shapes.

This is fantastic Stephen. I don't know where to begin. It is just wonderful. I love all aspects of the shot. The inclusion of the lady in red is a stroke of genius!!

Looks totally unreal and breathtaking! From this POV blurred waves look like clouds on blue sea. Geometric forms of rocks are amazing. Excellent picture as always.

It's a nice and a clever way to show the dimensions of the interlocking basalt columns to include this lady in the composition. Very well composed and exposed. TFS
