I was lucky enough to hear this little Wren in our garden on a trip back home to Northern Ireland in April this year (2007). Took me a while to spot him as it was quite a dull day. I got off a few shots but it was tricky to get rid of all the branches in the background, he was up high on a very branchy old dead tree, and of course I knew he wouldn't sit still for long so tried my best to get some sharp shots.

The Winter Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) is a familiar garden bird within the UK. It is the only Wren found outside North America, and is one of the smallest species of bird in europe (the Goldcrest & Firecrest are smaller).
Wrens are renouned for their singing abilities, and their song is surprisingly loud for their size. |

Hi Clarke,
Nice portrait of this small singer. I like to see this bird sing and also the pose with the typical tail. Great effort.
regards,
Zeno.

Hello Clarke
This is a great picture with superb detail. The wren is a very hard bird to photograph as well i know!!
One point though i would have cropped a bit of the sky out on the right hand side. My eye seems to focus on that at a first look before I look at the wren.
tfs All the best
Paul
