[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this picture on a trip back home to N. Ireland earlier this year (2007). I found it hard to capture as generally Dunnocks are shy birds in our garden, and stick close to the hedges on the ground. Luckily this one went up top for a peep so I managed to get off this shot. Hope you like it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Dunnock (Prunella modularis), is a small, familiar UK bird also known as the Hedge Accentor, Hedge Sparrow or Hedge Warbler. Dunnocks are ground feeders, and even though are a common garden bird here, they won't use feeders, but rather they prefer to eat food dropped by other birds along with their diet of insects, seeds and berries. They also tend to stay close to cover, usually garden hedgerows etc. Although referred to as a Hedge Sparrow, the Dunnock is not closely related to the sparrow family.
Interestingly, both male and female Dunnocks often breed with multiple partners and it's not uncommon to see 3 birds all feeding hatchlings. Only approximately 2% of birds are known to mate in this way.
Hi Clarke,
You are very right these birds are very shy and usualy can be found on the ground.
You have managed to capture a very nice one with very good sharpness, focus and good details.
I also like your composition with the leaves in the fg. Very good coloured bg and very good light and colours.
Gran enfoque sobre un estupendo fondo. Suavidad en los colores y una buena pose del ave. Esa lente te va de maravilla Clarke.
Un saludo: J. Ignasi
Hello Clarke,
Very good sharpness and details. Neutral background. Technically well done.
The 'warp and woof' is a bit my nitpicking...
