A huge Pelican comes in to land.

These birds are naturally very huge in size with large bill and wings. However they can easily sit on the water because of their bones which are full of air and the air sacs in their body are large. Their large bill and an expansible pouch in the lower mandible make it easier for them to catch food.

Although pelicans are awkward looking birds, they are very graceful in flight. They fly in flocks in a long line, with their elongated necks bent back over their bodies. They flap their wings only 1.3 times per second while a ruby-throated hummingbird beats its wings 50 to 70 times per second.

What a face! Great shot, Stephen. I like the funny way you present this big bird and the symetrical close framing of the composition. Very good catch, spot on the action.

Great composition of this splash capture!
The details are very good, incredible all the tiny water drops all around, I guess no noise reduction poossibility this time :D
