Araneus diadematus. These spiders are the ones I see most commonly around my garden. In fact this year my garden seemed to be infested with them and their webs.

This spiders web however crossed my garden path so I broke it to gain access. What amazed me was that 40min later it was rebuilding it "and at what speed". I watched her for a few minutes before deciding to take this picture which I hope captures the web building process as she connects the fine strands of silk.

In just over an hour she had finished a beautiful 40cm web. Needless to say I ducked under it for the rest of the day.

Good shot, with remarkable detail. Maybe a bit sharp, but not to bad. Well taken.

More than the own spider Stephen, I attract the detail of its web... the 4 threads of the right I remember to me the cords of a guitar.
Good sharpness, with pleasant composition and colorful.
Perhaps the use of F8 had improved the focus on the totality of the spider.

Excelent details in this pic. I believe we all get caught in these webs. You spend a half hour trying to get it off your face.
Well done with this one.

Mike

Excellent picture Stephen, the composition with the parallel section of webstrands really does the job here. Very good, thanks for posting.

Stephen, Great shot & I agree with Paul& Ricardo that the parallel strands bottom right are seen well & add nicely. Composed well also. A tad bit over-exposed but not by much. Was this with or without flash?? Thanx for posting!

This diadematus at work, with webstrands attached to it is another (very good) way of presenting a spider macro. It's done at the right speed and aperture to allow a sharp image on the main elements. I like this "plus" of the web, as well as the perfect background to enhance it.

Very good macro Stephen.
Both the spider and the web is very sharp with details.
Great composition.
Very well done.

What a catch! I have nevers seen them "handle" the silk. The sharpness and DOF is excellent.

Thanks for posting

Very well captured.
Excellent composition and sharp detail.
I really like the diagonal lines of the web.
Nice framing too.
Very well done.

Nice action caught. It's nice to see the fangs from this POV. I have to agree with Ricardo, F8 and you might have had those back legs in focus. Still an excellent shot, and it's a SPIDER! :)

Great capture of the web spinning process. I've never seen anything quite this illustrative before. A flash would have helped you get a greater DOF but it's still a spectualar shot.

When I saw the thumb, I thought another shot of this common spider again. But when I opened the pic, I was amazed. We can really see how it works. The silk coming out the body and handled with a leg. And we can just see the two silks about to be fused in a second. Great! (yes some silks and legs are soft, but I don't mind)

you have a nice garden!

I decided to "go back in time" and check out the beginning of your photos here...this one is totally amazing...the details are incrediable ..funny it almost looks like shes stringing a guitar...:O)
I look forward to looking at the rest of your gallery as I know I will learn alot! TFS
