You know this one will not stay still for a second, always on the move. I really wanted it head-on in flight and I did capture a few shots ...up-wing and down. Still I not overly happy with either so Iv included them in this collage.

I am not sure of the best way to capture in flight (luck ?) I did set the camera in manual with aperture F14 and shutter 1/200 then just let the Sigma flash handle the exposure but my technique or reflexes were not up to scratch, anyhow...

The Blue Morpho Butterfly (Morpho menelaus) is an iridescent blue butterfly that lives in rainforests of South and Central America, including Brazil, Costa Rica, and Venezuela.

The Morpho is a species of neotropical butterfly that has brilliant blue wings. The females (far right) are not as brilliantly colored as the males and have a brown edge with white spots surrounding the iridescent blue area. The undersides (visible when the butterfly is resting) are brown with bronze-colored eyespots.

The Blue Morpho has a wingspan of about 12cm. Adults drink the juices of rotting fruit using their straw-like proboscis.

The caterpillar of the Blue Morpho is red-brown with bright patches of lime-green on the back, and it eats the plant Erythroxylum pilchrum nocturnally at night.

Wow Stephen, you got some beautiful shots here of the Blue. And it is good to see the difference between the 2 sexes, thank you.
It is quite interesting that the undersides of the wings are completely different. The first time I saw them at our Butterfly House I thought I was looking at 2 different b'flies.
Excellent montage, all great to see so sharply and clearly. Good job, thanks
Janice

Excellent presentation Stephen,
Good detail, lovely colours and sharpness. exposure and lighting are good. Good POV and framing.

Thanks for posting, have a great weekend.

Hi Steve,
An excellent presentation..Wings up, wings down, and wings spread..who could ask for anything more :) I'm amazed at the results for these inflights at 1/200th!
Great flashwork that has resulted in some excellent color and detail. I know the conditions in the B-house aren't the best..
I've found a B-house in Texas about a 2 1/2 hour drive from here..Hope to go before too long..
Beautiful job - Beautiful B-fly!

Hi Stephen

Wow... outstanding presentation and work. You have managed to capture these shots perfectly. The saturation of colour is spot on. Very nice use of the flash. Well done! Thanks.
