Jacob's Ladder - Portsteward

A subdued sunset and large waves crashing over Portsteward pier gives quite an unusual look to this scene. That's why I called the shot "Jacob's Ladder". Portsteward is situated on the beautiful north antrim coast of Northern Ireland.

Hi Steve

A splendid and very moody shot from you, yet again, my friend!
I like the feeling that it has and also the mystery - due to all of that "silky foam"...it's almost like that ladder goes down into the steam of the hot layers of earth. (how about Hephaestus's or Vulcan's ladder?...just a thought :))

Anyway, i really like your composition here - with some good FG interest and textures, the ladder in the middle and those warm and beautiful colors in the BG.
May i ask how much was the shutter speed here?
Anyway, another terrific shot and nice to see you again posting here :)

I think Jacob must like steam baths!
Joking apart, this is a very impressive shot created by a wonderful pov and superb composition! I like how the strong rugged rocks in the f/g lead to the misty, mysterious m/g and the the molten, hovering sky beyond!
It's almost surreal!

Hi Stephen

I just like it. So mystic, so moody, so dark, yet so vibrant, and absolutely beautiful. The darkness in the background, bright light in the centre, and the dark rocks in the foreground takes one through a play of light as the eye moves through the shot from top to bottom scanning to discover all the wonderful images within.

The cumulative effect of the passing waves has created a lovely smoky result that renders an eerie character to the composition. The tiny strip of orange sky stands in beautiful contrast to the almost chromatic result of the ocean and the rocks. A wonderful engagement of shades and illumination throughout and a real pleasure for the eye.
