The volcanic stack is aptly named the 'Elephant Rock' faces the force of the Atlantic as gale force winds hit the Uk. How I managed to obtain a sharp image in this situation is beyond me. Yes the large tripod I carry with me did help.. No colour filter used here just a boast in colour saturation.

This whole area round to Ballintoy has an amazing number of basalt islet and is quite unique, it is also one of the finest locations to view the power of Atlantic storms as they pound into the natural defenses that protect Ballintoy harbour.

Hi Steve and congratulations on your new camera :) Hope you can gives us some hints about it later (i'm personally thinking of getting one next year).
A really amazing capture of these volcanic rocks and the huge amounts of steam present there.
The sharpness is indeed amazing here...what type is your large tripod, btw?
Anyway, the colors are magnificent, the whole atmosphere is fantastic and the composition wonderful.

This really is something to aspire too! i love your shots of coast, the compositon of the rocks, the colours, your mastery of the exposure. All reminds me of how far i have to go to achieve anything like this. Hopefully a better camera next year willl help but in the meantime i'm happy just to gaze at your images with not a little envy. keep 'em coming.

Ricardo

Hi Stephen,
The very long exposure has created a beautiful and surreal effect to this scene. I love the composition and framing here. Is the horizion off kilter a couple degrees? Awesome scene.

Hi Stephen,

Wonderful stuff. This long exposure and wide DOF works fanastically and you pulled it off so well - and the band of colour in the sky adds an element of warmth to balance out the cool blues.

Very impressed with the sharp shot in such wind - did you weigh the tripod down?

I have to say - my eye keeps getting drawn to the hole in the rock - I can't quite decide if that's a good or a bad thing...

Regardless, great work. TFS.

Another wonderfully misty long exposure. Like the other one, this works really well for me. The misty-surreal thing is great. Good to see it with a new camera, too.
Mike

Hi Steve,
I'm really amazed about the color of the sky. Just amazing that you managed to capture this without any colored filter. The slow shutter speed has really made the water look like fog and has created this eery look. Just love the subtle green colors on the rock and the shape of the Elephant Rock. I just feel that the rocks in the middle are a tad too dark and dominant.
TFS,
Niek
