Only the brave or fool hearted step this way please..

Well did I step through this portal, yes its where I captured this image. I started this day off in whiterocks beach with my new wellington boots only to have the surf swell up to my waist hmm. After a change of clothing from the car I dried off in the strong winds to move on to other locations. This was captured at the end of day and even the sheep had by this stage run for shelter into some nearby caves.

I love this kind of challenge and the satisfaction I get from nailing a shot. Its been a bad year for me in many ways but certainly not with my photography which I have immensely enjoyed. It allows me to dream and reflect on things - a positive facet of a world becoming more stressed and hurried.

Hello Stephen,
So, I wish that 2007 will be better for you ;) This is a great picture. I love this mood. Again it seems to be taken from a fairy tale. This POV is great with excellent exposure and nice texture. TFS,
Claudine
PS, great notes

Once again, excellent usage of long exposure and B&W. Such challenges offer great shots. Thanks.

Hello Stephen,
Wonderful ladscape.I liked effect of lower shutterspeed, lighting, framing,POV,DOF and composition a lot.Excellent B&W work!
TFS...:-)

Hi Stephen,
A very good B&W indeed. Selective compo.
I don't like to put photos in categories and stuff; nevertheless I'll do it right now; IMO this is more a photo for TrekLens as there are human elements in it; the fence).
But...good photography!!

hi stephen
excellent, juste le grillage qui me gene un peu, mais pour le reste c'est extra.surtout l'effet d'eau dû a la pose longue.
laurent

There is a very odd perspective, to my eye at least, in this image. It appears one is looking down at the fence and then up at the sea and rocks. I like the strong value contrasts in your B & W image. I don't think this is quite as strong a composition as your photos most often are. The rocks feel a little too centered??? I'm not sure just what it is. The exosure and sharpness is wonderful as usual.

Hi Stephen,
First I tought, an ugly fence, but it is precisely the contrast between the fence that tries to bound nature and seems to offer a bit of a shelter, and the savage ocean that makes this photograph so interesting.
You had indeed a great photo year, so i wish other things in your life turn out well also.

Hi Steve,
Sorry to read that it has been a bad year for you, but I am at least glad to hear that it was and still is a great year for your photography. I can only second the latter, since you have shown me some awesome shots and I have learned a lot from looking at them. I also understand the feeling you get when nailing a shot...its a moment that makes one proud.
About the photo. A beautiful composition which is made even stonger by the fence and the gate. Two small nits. The white rocks are a tad too white. I can see an edge of the masking on the larger rock. I am also not so sure about the three white spots in the top part of the sky.
Beside that, the photo has a really misterious look.
TFS,
Niek

P.S. fully disagree with Annick.

Hi Stephen,
This picture really questions me. I look at it and I don't know if I should pass the gate. Very strange. In a way looking at it, frightens me.
It seems so unreal, like being from another dimension. It's a very special picture

I love the drama of this shot and you have captured a great composition with the entrance effectively leading us into the picture. The water looks powerful and beautiful. It is perfect in B&W

Hi Stephen

Another mystical photo from you!
The atmosphere and mood here are more than impressive and the b&w idea just enhances that.
Very beautiful composition with that "ancient gate" there in the middle. Also the motion of the waves is greatly captured.
A question: are you happy about this lens? Would you recommend it?

Cheers and TFS
Horia

Hello again,

This one really is striking when you view it in full size. The B&W was a superb choice and I can't imagine this could ever look better in colour. The FG is outstanding and ever more outstanding is the contrast between the FG and the rocks in BG.
This picture has bags of dramatic mood and you did an amazing job capturing it!
Excellent work!

PS. I hope year 2007 will be a lot better for you in every aspect of your life :-)

Hi Stephen

Perfect in B&W. A beautiful shot full of atmosphere. I sincerely wish that 2007 is a better year for you my friend. :-)

Stephen

what a really moody 'old' picture. there is so muuch in there to see and take in. It really looks stormy as well and so very effective in B&W. It is a medium I should rediscover...

Great view with the gateway off to the right... Was the cir pol to act as an ND on this one, or does it have another effct in B&W?

TFS
Emma
