[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A fertilised queen wasp emerges from hibernation and prepares herself to search for a suitable site to start her colony in my back garden. The nest will be constructed from chewed bark and dried timber mixed with saliva. The queen initially lays 10-20 eggs. This first batch hatches into worker (sterile females). These then feed and protect subsequent eggs laid by the queen. By late summer a nest will contain 3000 to 5000 wasps. During late summer males and new young queens will emerge and mate. The female selects a suitable site to spend the winter ready to start a new colony in the spring.
I saw this queen wasp sitting on a leaf of Lady's Mantle (which holds drops of dew beautifully) and hurried inside to get my camera.

Hi Ian,
you start with a nice pictuer.
The details are very good and the DOF as well.
Maybe the straw in the FG is a bit distracting but it's still
a fine picture.
Well done

Welcome to TN.
