This was taken on a day-trip to the isle of May in the North Sea. We took a boat out to the Island and walked around tryingto get photographs of birds, not a difficult job as there are about 200,000 birds nesting on the Island. My main idea was to try and get puffins in flight, a difficult task as they are so quick. My friend and I were sitting for quite a while watching this pair and willing them to fly up, we were getting a bit desperate as the boat was due to sail and we had been warned not to be late back. a few people walked past us and wonder of wonders, they caused the puffins to fly up and I was lucky enough to have my camera ready just to take. I think I must have taken about 20 images at this one point and this was the only one that was halfway decent. As an added bonus the birds have both got sand eels in their beaks.

Hello Lorna,
Bravo!
This is a fine action capture, with many attractive details!
I like that there are two of them, one still on the ground; the food is also a bonus...
A well balanced composition with good details!
Greetings,
Pablo -

This is a wonderful capture with colorful details. And it also shows terrific action. The sharpness is beyond reproach. I love their faces and the markings are so clear!

By the way, welcome to Treknature!

Hi Lorna,
I sure wish sometime I get the chance to see and photo these attractive little sea birds, they look so adorable to me.What is great about this photo is you have action going on and the birds have food in they bills. The colours are all good and so is the focus ,the exposure is good as well as the whites are not over blown. On the Isle of May in the month of May,what can I say except I wish I could be there, for now I'll just enjoy your photo. Thanks for this view of these lovely birds. Bob

Hi Lorna, you have captured a fabulous shot, one on the wing, one grounded, of one of the most amazing small sea birds out there, I have studied these on Scottish Isles before, amazing things, and you have got them perfect....tfs regards h

Hey Lorna,
Welcome to TN.
This is an absolutely stunning capture of the pair of Puffins with sand eels. The colours are excellent with great ambience. The motion is highlighted by the slightly blurred wing of one of the puffins, otherwise both are very crisply captured.
The isalnd seems to be a real great place for nature lovers and bird watchers.Lucky you!
Look forward to more of your exploits:)
Thanks for sharing and cheers

Hello, Lorna.

Whoa!

You have done very well here. Judging by your note, you were lucky not to be stranded on the island! Well worth the risk though, to get a picture like this.

Wonderfully clear and sharp with the foreground and background both nicely out-of-focus.

Excellent!

Best Wishes,

John.
