Latin name: Iris pseudacorus
Size: Grows to approximately 150cms tall.
Distribution: Found throughout the UK.
Months seen: May to August.
Habitat: Damp edges of ponds lakes and rivers.
Special features: The long, stiff leaves of the plant are sword shaped and have sharp edges.
The other name for this plant is 'Flag'. It probably came about when the 5th century king of Franks, Clovis, used it as a heraldic symbol on his battle flag. |
