This is a beautiful portrait of a Siskin. I really like the warm colours of the BG that makes the bird stand out so well. I also think that the crop with small leaves makes it even more interesting.

Another of your beautiful telephoto shots of birds - as usual, so sharp and clear with beautiful colours against a wonderfully out-of-focus background. You must have a very steady hand to take pictures at a focal length of 400mm!

Happy to know Siskins are human friendly in your part of the world, Gary :-).
The Sparrows here in Riyadh, on the contrary, are very allergic to my presence :-).

A beautifully composed image with excellent DOF. For the life of me, I just cannot manage smaller apertures; my pictures go all dark above 7!

The bird stands out sharply against the dark neutral BG. I like its colourful plumage.

Hi Gary,

This is a great composition: perfect crop, lovely saturated color and OOF background. The bird does look just a tad soft. You might try a beanbag to steady the camera on the window or mirror. My husband designed and built us each a wonderful little platform for each of our windows. It absolutely does not move and it with a beanbag really works well.

The colors are great and well lit.
The details are sharp and the composition is good.
The BG seems a bit grainy,
You can get rid of that grainy texture by using NeatImage,
which you can download for free from the web.

This is a fun story :-) It is nice that those little ones could be so friendly; birds here are not... This is a beautiful capture with great composition and nice colors and details. They look a bit like the American Goldfinch that we have here and they are ones of my preferred birds. I think that this specie lives here as well but I have never seen them.
