[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I was walking in the hills with Caitlin my six year old daughter, just chatting, trudging through the heather, when suddenly with a hiss and flap of it's wings this goose jumped up in front of us and saw us off.
It had been resting in the soft heather until we literally stumpled on it!
Barnacle geese are not nearly so widespread as Canada Geese, but are regular breeders in Iceland, Greenland, West Coast of Scotland & Ireland.
This was just a grab shot using the 80mm end of my lens, so I'm sorry for those of you who like to see the whole beast.
I didn,t want to disturb it any more by faffing around pointing my camera at it. So we headed off leaving it to settle back down.
Shot taken in raw and converted to jpeg. Colours sorted with levels and that's it really.

Now that is a Close-up. Good portrait of this goose. You managed good details on the black and white. I love his beak!

A very good close up!
I like the portrait made of this geese, in which we can enjoy clear details on its beak, and the feathers.
Very good also the eye contact and the DOF used to put away the background.

This quick shot became a fine goose portrait!
The bird seems happy too so I guess all is well...
Good details are captured with nice focus on the big brown eye, fine natural colours!

Bill....wasn't that from the Sgt Peppers album? I wonder at the connection...as I have never heard of it outside of the Beatles....so it was native eh? Very nice portrait. You should pen up a studio for these creatures and charge em'. Maybe they will bring you left over food...ha!

A really nice shot of the barnacle goose - we see them on Rutland Water in winter.

Great POV and detail of the head - well done - esp for a spur of the moment shot.

Barnacle goose is something new for me, Gary. Frankly, I have a poor knowledge about ducks, geese and the like.
I see a great portrait here of this interesting species.

great shot, especially as you say it was very much a reactionary one! I've not seen one of these before, so i shall keep an eye out for them when i come to the Cairngorms. Nice to hear you left it alone and didn't bother it too. Good work.

Nice shot after both the parties were caught by suprise.Still a beautiful shot, with that curious look in it's eye.Had it not been for its note, i would have thought it looks a bit dull.Very well done.

Excellent portrait of this not oft seen goose on TN.The eye contact is wonderful,and you can see the goose is a bit perturbed,the neck plumage is quite ruffled,another sign they are ready to have a go at you.I like the subtle brown feathers around the eye and extending to the beak,and the bulbous tip of the beak.Very well seen.TFS

You might not speek Dutch very well, but you write it without fault Gary :)
Good portrait with lovely clear eye and nice BG.
Just seems like there is a bit of a red color cast in the image and I would like to have see a little more space on top above the head of the goose.
