[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This picture is actually 11 pictures (all taken in portrait) and stitched together. They were taken from the Bridge of Orchy Hills looking out over Rannoch Moor. I won't try naming the mountains, there are too many of them in this landscape. But in there is Ben Nevis - the UK's highest mountain. However the pictures were taken on the ridge between (out of sight) Beinn a' Chreahain 1081m and (right) Coire Dubh Mor 894m. The lochan is Lochan a' Chreachain and the peak on the right of the picture is Meall Buidhe (978m).

OK - pictures info. Taken in .RAW format and converted to .jpeg, joined, resized (both are full frame), and sharpened.

The photos were taken using a polarising filter, hence the darker blue effect in the middle of the picture, but please remember you are looking at an more than 180degree panorama here, and this is exactly how a polarising filter works (at certain angles to the sun).

In previous posts of the mountains in Scotland, I have been asked as to why there are very few or no trees in my photos... As you can see most of the landscape in this area lacks trees other than forestry commision plantings and even they struggle and need lots of help.
The reason is that the area is mostly peat (formerly forest which was cleared hundreds of years ago), which has a very high acidity and water level, leaving waterlogged roots to rot in unfavourable conditions. The result is that most the land is exceptionally difficult to grow in (unless you are heather/ling etc) in the glens (valleys) and mostly bare rock further up the mountains. Any trees that do manage to try to live, then get eaten alive by red deer or drowned by the high rainfall... so not many trees survive and any 'woodland' is rather thin or thread bare...

I have left the setings information out becuase of the range of settings across this panorama.

Also I'm going to be a bit on the quiet side over the next few days - my in-laws are arriving this pm and the house needs tidying and as you all know TN can take up a lot of time and I won't be able to make that commitment this weekend.

Critiques [Translate]

Hi Emma,
This is a very well executed pano which deserves to be printed large and displayed somewhere prominent. Great technical handling of the images. As for the whole image I love the colour palette, with a mixture of cool colors in the shade and the warmer tones in full sunlight. Composition is great with the valley walls leading the eye to the mountains on the horizon and what a sky.

Ok, OK, I'm going to sell my camera and just watch you postings on TN and TL. Who can beat this kind of photo!! Every little part is just yaw dropping beautiful. The dark sky in the middle with a nice suttle color flow to the outer sides. The bright mountains in the middle with a nice suttle light flow to the outer sides and then the great natural framing od the two mountain tops. What program did you use for stitching the photos?

This is a breathtaking panorama. Excellent blend of shadow and light, with the cumulous clouds and snow topped distant mountains very nice. The LP version is fantastic.
I've never done this myself, although I have the software..Very well done.

Wow - I'm really speechless
This is just a gorgeus view.
The weather must have been incredible - such an amazing visibility (only the right part of the mountains ith the distance is a bit blurry - but that might have something to do with the stitching).

You mentioned in your note :

Does it mean that you've been using different settings for every exposure ?

From my experience with panorama shots I wouldn't reccommend to do that, as it complicates the whole stitching process and sometimes the results are really bad.

This one is great anyway :)
