Hello all,

I've been away for a little while, so i hope you're all well. Looks like there's been some great posts in my absence so i'll try to catch up!

Just returned form a VERY wet and gloomy road trip to the Highlands of Scotland, specifically the Cairngorms.
Pictured here is the view North form the summit of Cairn Lochan, which at 1215m / 3986ft high is classified as a 'Munro', a Scottish peak over the 3000ft threshold. This was the only day where we had anything like any decent clear weather, and this was snatched during a interlude between showers. Up here there are still large patches of snow lying around, which provided us with a good 45 minutes of fun as we slid around on our waterproofs and bags :o)
This area is classified as 'Sub Arctic', and is a very wild and vast open space of towering granite crags and deep valleys hiding lochs. We saw a pair of Ptarmigans earlier on during the hike, which made my day but alas i was only equipped with my 10-22mm.

Hand held, Shot in RAW, highlights reduced, increased saturation 4%, coverted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking..

Hi Paul,
an excellant shot.
Superb composition.
Well done,
Joe

great capture of some wonderful Scottish countryside have you tried a more darker image for mood and it may eliminate the bright spot in the clouds.

Hi Paul.
Great POV. I love the clarity and the small rain shower falling in the valley. Great colour and composition. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Hi Paul

I had a rather soggy long weekend in Scotland at the end of June.

A great atmospheric shot with great DOF and exposure. I really like the cloudburst you have captured in the distance.

Hi Paul,
Wonderful portrayal of the Scottish Highlands - Cairn Lochan summit to be precise. Majestic low cloud formations, mountain peaks, a tiny shower over the valley and awesome light and shadow effects. Excellent POV to portray this environment and the ambience. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.

Hello Paul,
Just wonderful....extremely moody and intense.
I do like the sunrays coming through the clouds; very very good light! Amazing depth...

Hi Paul,

Seems you had got a poor weather in Scotland, like the rest of Western Europe...
Anyway, you managed to take a great shot. The colors are soft and the lightning is interesting.
I’m happy that you had the chance to spot a Ptarmigan.
TFS,

Damien.

Como siempre lindos paisajes que hacen soñar con esas tierras (eso es una parte importante de la fotografía: crear sentimientos)... Muy oportunas las nubes que no dejan lugar al cielo y forman un conjunto interesante. Saludos Paul.

Wow Paul, magnificent landscape - what a view! The weather has given you a great sky for this shot, excellent exposure and nicely composed.

Hi Paul,
Wow, lovely wild scenery! Superb composition, lovely colours and I love the clouds! Beautiful! Well done and TFS
Cheers Tina :-0

Hi Paul,
This is a glorious view you have shown us. Well I can certainly see the rain in the distance. The rocky outcrop and the rolling hills look just superb.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hi Paul,
Looks like you had a great vacation in Scotland as well. Weather wise we seem to had a simular experience. Don't you feel that it belongs to this landscape?
I didn't climb any mountain but did see a lot of them. I just don't have the right gear for such adventures. I might need to do it next time.

You used the rock on the FG perfectly, it gave some idea about the height and the wideness of the area. Good work on the exposure and composition. I do feel that the photo needs a small rotation to the left. Just to make it feel horizontal.
TFS,
Niek
