Hello,

this was taken about half a mile before i reached the spot where my previous posting was taken from, and is looking South deep into the bowels of the Cairngorm Mountains.
The Cairngorm mountains are often desribed as the only true wild area left in the UK, and when you're up here it's easy to see why. In all the other mountainous areas of the UK, such as the Lakes or Snowdonia in Wales, it is nigh on impossible to go anywhere in the hills without stumbling across a random sheep somewhere.
Here however, the only animals i saw all day were a couple of Ptarmigans and some smaller birds which i couldn't identify.
I hope the figures in this shot aren't too distracting, but they are my friends who i was walking with and to ask them to move out of the shot from here would've meant quite a detour! Besides, i think they add a sense of scale to the scene. That patch of white in the background is snow by the way, and i'll hopefully be posting some shots from here in the future.

Handheld, shot in RAW, levels adjusted, lightened slightly, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking..

Beautiful part of the country. We were up there last year, and I hope to go there again later this year. You have captured that rocky barren bleakness well.

Hi Paul

A great shot showing the environment of thw Cairngorm Mountains. I like the cloudy BG and ray of light on the ridge. Your fellow walkers help give a sense of scale.

James

Bonjour,
Magnifique paysage grandiose bien mis en évidence par les petits personnages.
Bonne journée.

Hi Paul...I like the softness of the clouds contrasted against the strong rocks. Inclusion of the figures gives good scale. Lighting is good as it models your landscape well. Best, Brat.

great ambiance here with the shadows in the back.
one of the highlights on earth!wish to go back there!

Hi Paul,
the figures add to the effect in opinion.
They make it all the more awesome (the size of the landscape).
Sharp with a great composition.
Well done,
Joe

Hi Paul,
I'm no expert when it comes to landscape capture, that's for certain. It's a pleasing composition with interesting sky/terrain and great color, exposure, and DOF. Your friends are so small that I think they add a bit, rather than distract. Don't know what ISO you used, but handheld you probably could've got away with a slightly wider aperture and faster s-speed IMHO.
Well done!
Howard

Hello Paul,

Hi Paul,
Superb shot of this British wilderness. The beauty and the ambience is wonderfully portrayed. The FG details look superb as are the low clouds in the BG. Marvellous light and shadow effect got with an excellent POV. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.
TFS.

Hi Paul, splendid landscape with great sky, wonderful light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Paul,
The persons in the photo are perfect. They give scale to the photo and show us how huge and open this area is. As Miles mentioned, you have captued the rocky barren bleakness well. It does look like you had to pack you camera away soon.
TFS,
Niek
