Hi Brian
I don't know if 'yellow tip' is a local Scottish name for this butterfly, but it's more commonly known as the Orange Tip (latin name Anthocharis cardamines). They are a member of the Pieridae family of butterflies. It's feeding on Ladies Tresses or Cuckoo Flower (Cardamine pratensis) which is the foodplant of the caterpillar. This is a male butterfly - the female lacks the orange wing tips and looks like a small Cabbage White.
A good shot, like the composition and focus - just a little overexposed on the top part of the flower.

Hello, Brian.
I didn't realise you were on TN too.
Vinny has certainly filled you in pretty well about this creature and the plant upon which it is sitting.
I like this shot - the butterfly is in nice contrast to the nicely out-of-focus dark background. I agree that the butterfly's wings and the flower at the top are both just a tad overexposed but it is a fine shot nonetheless.
Best Wishes,
John.
