I thought that I would upload a shot that explained my last shot, but was also a landscape sunset in its own right.

My last shot (2 Years on TN) was shot with almost exactly the same settings as this one, but with a totally different focus point. This one was focused at infinity (specifically the sun because it was getting too dark for the lens I was using to focus). If you look carefully you can actually see the sun in this shot. The loch is Loch of Harray, on the Orkney Mainland (this is actually the name of the 'main' island).

Ideally I would have changed lenses, but time was not on my side having just arrived at a point where I could capture the sunset. I also had to improvise with the tripod as well using the car door holding the camera in between the open door and the car, resting on the wing mirror and keeping the shutter speed as high as possible.

Anyhow this was the sunset on my last night in the Orkney Islands towards the end of July. I read in the newspapers this weekend that the best weather of the summer in the UK was had in the Outer Hebridies and the North West part of mainland Scotland... Well I managed to go to one of those areas for my holiday and did indeed have superb weather, and the weather in the Orkney's was not that bad either.

Right having told you how the picture was taken, how was it created, well it was converted from RAW, and left totally alone after a resize and sharpen. I even left the wind turbines in this picture. For the very sharp eyed, they are on the horizon and pretty much a part of life throughout the Orkney islands which makes landscape work quite difficult at times!

Thanks for coming by.

Hi Emma,
How are you doing. Did everything go OK at the hospital? I tried to e-mail you, but it got returned again so I tried the other addresses you gave me. I do hope all is OK and recovery is on the good side.

I like the way you captured the sun hiding behind the clouds. The warm orange glow is perfectly captured. Great to see still so much detail in the loch. Great work on the exposure and details. It has a great senere feel to it.

TFS,
Niek

Hello neighbour,
This is funny... sunset in the Orkney Islands side by side with a sunrise across the North Sea!
Appropriate, the sun rise in the East and set in the West...
A dramatic atmosphere has been captured, nicely composed wuith distinct layers!
Great warm colours, a fine atmosphere...
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Emma,

Hope you are well and are on the mend.

Wow! Not many people have captured the sun itself as clearly and cleanly as you did here. It is quite eerie, in fact
Superb work

Hi Emma,
Gorgeous sunset with such rich colours and sharp details in the layered sky. The sun peeks out and presents a stunning effect. Excellent POV to portray this charming ambience and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Emma;
It is certainly a mood shot and does what it should..Creates a special ambiance. I wonder if others feel the same feelings or if all of us has a slightly different feel..Probably the later. Just wonderful!

Bob

This is another really nice sunset Emma. I like the horizontal bands of the composition and all the rich saturated color. I hope complications with health care are resolving themselves and that you are getting the care you need and are feeling stronger again soon.
