Hi
This is a small copper butterfly feeding on a ragwort plant.

I was quite excited as this is the first one I have seen ever so was delighted to be able to get this shot.

It is usually seen in ones and twos, but in some years large numbers may be found at good sites. Males are territorial, often choosing a piece of bare ground or a stone on which to bask and await passing females. They behave aggressively towards any passing insects, returning to the same spot when the chase is over.

Though it remains a common and widespread species, the Small Copper declined throughout its range during the twentieth century.

Cropped, sharpened and adjusted levels - the bg is a bit grainy tho

Thanks
Linzi

Hi Linzi
Well done on your first Small Copper. Good detail on such a small butterfly, but as you admit yourself it is a bit grainy - that may be down to over-sharpening. I'm fortunate in that I know of several sites local to me where I can almost guarantee finding this species in summer.
Kind Regards
Vinny

Hola Linzi,

Josep Ignasi.

Hey Linzi!
A very beautiful shot, yes, I do see some noise in the darker areas, and I feel the light was a little harsh, which you've handled very well, indeed...
I love the POV you've chosen, it gives the composition a beautiful twist, something I can't pen or word..
I'm afraid, I cant do a workshop that illustrates how I'd rather remove the 'noise', but I can show you one of the recent workshops I did for similar reasons.

Thanks so much for your kind words...I do hope I'm not too late in saying, "Welcome aboard!!"

Cheers!
Goldy
