Spirorbis is a tube-worm very common all along Atlantic shores of Europe. This earthworm like creature build little calcareous tubes on shells or, most often, on brown algae. It particularly favours the fronds of Fucus serratus and Fucus vesiculosus in the shallow sublittoral and intertidal but also occurs on other algae such as laminarian algae, Himanthalia elongata buttons and, more rarely, stones. The animal extends its tenatcles out of the tube and collect all kind of food particles sedimented around.

Look under your feet while on the coast, maybe you'll see one :-)

The thumbnail gives us no idea what you are showing us Michal, but once opened it is very interesting.
Here in NZ we have many new arrivals to our country and they have just about stripped all our coastal shellfish. They will take even tiny, tiny shellfish and use them in their cooking. So now our fish have no food left to gather from our rocky areas at full tide. And even though it is illegal to do so, they still do it.
The colours and contrasts in your photo are very good, and the details are nice and sharp. Well done, thank you.

Swietny pomysl Michale! Wyszla z tego artystyczna kompozycja z czarnym tlem i bialymi mieczakami. Co nie zmienia faktu, ze zdjecie wartosciowe rowniez z biologicznego punktu widzenia ;-) Podoba mi sie.

Tak a propos - moze znasz lacinska albo angielska nazwe malza skalotocza - mam zdjecia, ale nie moge nic znalezc w sieci.

I like the contrast in the photo Michal. It's almost as if I'm looking at a black and white print with the sharpness of a fine grain colour film. The tube worms almost look if they are stuck on black rocks. Great detail and a good note that made me learn more about these worms. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic use of contrast and shape. The tube worm leaves a very nice imprint, as well as a repeating pattern. Well done.
