A male swan landing at a famous carp fishing pool Nr Monmouth in S Wales. This photo won me first place in an amateur photographic competition with which i won a trip of a lifetime to Namibia.I was just putting my gear away when i seen him flying towards me.The female was on the nest at the other side of the lake and i didnt know whether to run and take cover or take some photos.
I decided to take some photos and had to quickly change the lens and start firing away. Was well pleased when i seen the result, but even more so when i heard about the competition win :0)
The camera was a Canon eos 300d and the lens was aCanon 75-300 IS.(dont know how to change the details below)

Sure I've seen this before somewhere... excellent shot Andrew... and I'm sure I've said that before somewhere.

Great shot. Very sharp, nice colors. And you captured the right moment. Good reflection. Regards, Yvonne

Superb detail, and excellent bright colours. Very sharp and clear.
Thanks for posting

Great shot!!! Love the DOF, reflection ... you are brave to stay and get the shot .. these swans get very aggressive .. but it was well worth it if you won a trip to Namibia .. good for you ... great shot!! Congrats!!

Hi Andrew,
Great shot, superb detail and colour and for a grab shot great composition to include the reflection.
Adrian

Hello Andrew, great timing and a well composed shot not cutting of the reflection which greatly adds to the picture. Nice work.

Bonjour Andrew,
your shot is excellent, good balance end good crop. Your exposure is the best you could considering the shadows and the upper part of the wings. Congratulations!

Hi Andrew

I am not surprised you won a competition with this stunning shot. Great timing, well exposed and I love the POV. Crisp, clear sharp details. Great work. Thanks..

The Bigger Splash! Great.
I'd love to enjoy that beautiful, crisp and clear picture full 800 pixel size without too much of an empty border.
Congratulations, thanks, and best regards,
Peter

Big smile!

It's a deserving winner. The reflection is what makes it, I expect that had a lot to do with it's success. Wonderful symmetry. Perfect timing has caught loads of the splash. I guess I I were to pick fault I'd say the top of the wings are over exposed but that doesn't spoil the photo.
Andy.

Wonderful!!!

This is just Stunning. It is so sharp & crisp. The colurs are viberent & the reflection has come out well. A 1 in a million shot, which could win more competitions.
Thanks for sharing with us & a Very well done!

Hello Mr Andrew,
Ultimate three point landing (in aviation terminology (An airplane landing in which the two main wheels and the nose wheel, tail wheel, or tailskid all touch the ground simultaneously).
This swan has done almost similar perfect aquatic landing like amphibious aircraft. Perfect capture. I give you 100/100 points for this picture. Cheers:).

Best wishes & regards-Dr Subhash Ranjan
