[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Caterpillars of the Fox Moth (Macrothylacia rubi). This moth species is quite common, and owes much of its success to the dietary capability of its larvae. They will eat bramble, heather, bog myrtle and bilberry - all rather tough and nasty plants to most species. The caterpillars also have irritating hairs that make them unpalatable to most birds.

This is rather a 'Golden Oldie' shot for me, as it was taken back in October of 2004 with my Canon Powershot G1. It was taken at the Elan Dam near Rhayader in Wales. I was astounded to find so many larvae of this moth in such a small area, and I couldn't resist gathering them up for a group photo. Instead of 'cheese' I asked them to say 'bramble'!

No caterpillars were harmed in the taking of this photo ;p

Kind Regards

Hi Vinny. I could not see then just being there like that. One has had enough already and unwinding . Like the pose all the same. good detail and colour. What have you done to the weather . Dull all day in Bmth. I work in Westbourne.Tfs Nick..

Hello Vinny,
I never saw caterpillars like these before. Their colours are interesting.
You captured all those details of their hairy bodies with great sharpness.
The guy who wants to leaf the scene is my favourite... ;-)
Thanks for sharing,
Britta
