The Blue Tit (Parus caeruleus) is one of the most common British garden birds. This wee, ragged visitor to my window box is most likely a female. The only difference between the sexes is that the male has slightly brighter colors.
Nesting season is hard on birds. Blue Tits have been known to lay between 12 - 18 eggs in a single clutch, though 7 - 8 is the norm. Either way, there are a lot of mouths to feed and the energy expended takes it's toll. By the end of the season the birds look the worse for wear.
Blue Tits are perhaps most well known as the birds that, especially in winter, raid milk bottles on doorsteps; tearing through the foil bottle caps they help themselves. They've even been known to follow the milkman on his rounds.
It was a very cloudy day so not the best lighting conditions. This was the first time that the Blue Tits have come to the windowbox rather than the hanging window feeders; I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to shoot without glass between us. For some reason they also were less skittish today and stayed long enough for me to get more than one or two frames.
I did quite a bit of post editing in Paint Shop Pro Photo XI... besides cropping, I ran it through the color fade tool to remove a greenish tint, then the digital noise removal tool, adjusted the contrast a fraction, and sharpened it once before resizing. |

good close-up of the pretty blue tit, great pose and pov,
just it seems the removing of the noise took away the structure of the feathers,
especially the yellow ones on the breast are very soft.

Hi Mish,
this shot has a good POV and a great composition.
It is very hard to capture these birds as they only stay in one place for a very short time.

this is a nice pose from him. The lighting is quite nice, I like how his head is lit up.
I'm not sure about the sharpening.
These are so skittish, I don't think I have hardly any without some movement blur. You did well to capture him.
