Black Swan
I saw this Black Swan for the first time in my local park earlier this year. The plumage at that time was very mottled, so I am guessing he/she is a young one as the plumage is becoming increasingly black.

Sightings of black swans have become reasonably common in rhw UK. They could be found on almost any water body. They have similar habitat requirements to mute swans and are often found in the same areas.

Black swans are native to Australia and are the state bird of Western Australia. They were brought to the UK as ornamental birds like peacocks and golden pheasants. Like many other captive birds, they occasionally find their way out into the wild.

They are similar in size to the closely related mute swan. They appear all black when swimming but they have white primary wing feathers, which can be seen in flight. The bill is red with a broad white band on the tip.

Black swans were also introduced to New Zealand where a feral breeding population has become well established. The New Zealand population increased dramatically because they faced very little competition or predation.

There have been occasional reports of successful breeding attempts in the UK but they have not become established. They face competition from our native swans so it is unlikely they could become as well established here as they have in New Zealand.

Hi Deborah,
A beautiful image!
I like the most the nice light and illumination on the swan, it really stand out their black feathers against the blue water as background.
I like also the low POV and the composition made.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Deborah,
I like the viewpoint of this photograph showing the Swan angled nicely towards the camera.
The details are good and the head (the important bit in this type of picture) is beautifully sharp.
Well done.
I look forward to other photo's.
Best wishes,
Peter

G’day Deborah. I like the way you presented the swan right of centre and also the water beeds give the bird added interest. Interesting notes to.
Dont take this the rong way but its good that Eroupe has some of our natives from Aus as they gave us so many of there's themselves which have become ever increasing problems to our wildlife. TFS Paul

Hi Deborah

A lovely shot of the Black Swan. Lovely composition and colours. Good exposure also - they can be difficult to take.

A classic shot of Black Swan, Deborah.
The blue shade of water created by some phenomenon of light provides the most befitting background for the subject.
The bird has been shot in a regal pose.
Thanks and best regards.

Hi Deborah

What a magnificent shot and what a splendid composition created here!
The contrast here between this black swan and the lovely blue of the water looks amazing and the details and pose of the animal are gorgeous!
The exposure was a little bit tricky here because of the strong side light, but you managed it just fine! Congrats there, too!
All-in-all: an outstanding job!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Deborah
A perfect shot with a great model!!!
There is something fantastically right about that angle of the neck held by the swan, with that placement of the swan itself towards the left, making the composition such a graceful one.
The crop is just right and the that tiny water droplet just about to leave its beak, not only gives that orginal feel, but also tells u to speed up the shoot and that it needs to go right bak to its play in the water.
Very well done.
TFS & Cheers
